| It is a natural product. | ||

Leather is unique and each hide is of individual beauty. Wollsdorf Leder our parent company is located in the Austrian Alps in a country renowned for their tradition in livestock breeding. The quality starts at the beginning, therefore the ability of a tannery to source quality rawhides which are clean, large and relatively free of natural hallmarks is only part of the equation. |
To produce exceptional and consistant leather, it is essential that the rawhide is processed by a tannery which completely understands the virtues of producing top grain leather from mainly fresh hides and how to exploit the natural characteristics of each individual hide, which can vary in texture and appearance. |
So what are the different types of leathers? What is the difference between full and corrected grain leather? |
Because each individual rawhide has to be assessed and graded, aniline, nubuck, semi-aniline and corrected grain leathers provide the basis to our various qualities Full grain leather has not had its surface appearance altered by sanding or correcting, so as to cover up excessive natural hallmarks or other imperfections in the hide. In some cases full grain leather has been embossed to give the surface a different look or fee, i.e. a shrunken grain appearance. Full grain leather may be used to produce: |
Aniline full grain leather is simply aniline dyed leather, without any pigment applied to the surface. It may have a slight two-tone effect and should have a Scotchgard™ finish. The feel is luxurious. Should only be used in light commercial applications. |
Semi-aniline full grain leather has a light pigmented finish applied to the surface to improve colour uniformity and surface durability but still allows the leather to have a supple feel. Can be used in almost any situation. |
Nubuck is a grain leather, which has been buffed to produce a soft nap surface. It is very soft and more liable to soiling than full or corrected grain leather, however, this can be controlled by using a Scotchgard finish. This type of leather can also be embossed. Should only be used in light commercial applications. |
Pigmented leather has a greater degree of surface pigment, which equates to a firmer hand. It is classified as corrected grain leather because normally buffering to a certain extent has altered the surface. This type of leather is very durable. |
Corrected grain leather improves its durability by generally having a full pigmented finish applied to the corrected and embossed surface. When produced by a tannery experienced in the manufacture of leather for upholstery, corrected grain leather can be expected to give excellent service. |
